Bio
Since September 2012 Lieselotte Brems is asssistant professor in English language and linguistics at the University of Liège.
After obtaining her MA in Germanic Languages in 2001, she was appointed to the FWO project Categorization and instantiation in the nominal group: a functional approach to the English nominal group from September 2001 to October 2002, in succession to Lieven Vandelanotte. From 2002 to 2007 she was appointed as teaching assistant in English Linguistics. In December 2007 she defended her PhD thesis on the synchronic layering of size noun and type noun constructions in English (supervisor Kristin Davidse and co-supervisor Hubert Cuyckens). From 2008-2009 she worked as a postdoctoral researcher on a grant from the Research Council of K.U.Leuven. She has been awarded a postdoctoral scholarship from the FWO from October 2009 onwards until September 2012. In September 2012 she moved to the University of Liège where she is currently Asssistant professor in English language and linguistics, while remaining a research fellow in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Leuven. In 2011 she published the monograph The Layering of Size and Type Noun Constructions in English (Topics in English Linguistics 74, De Gruyter Mouton). In addition, she, together with Kristin Davidse, Tine Breban and Tanja Mortelmans, is co-editor of the volume Grammaticalization and Language Change: New Reflections (2012, John Benjamins) and together with Lobke Ghesquière and Freek Van de Velde she is co-editor of the special issue of ETC (English Text Construction, John Benjamins) Intersections of Intersubjectivity (2012).
