The Jacques chocolate factory in Eupen has a Chocolate Museum
telling you the story of chocolate through documentation on the
cultivation of the cocoa bean, a video presentation and collections of
diverse objects. We will see the production hall where chocolate makers
are producing the Jacques chocolate sticks and bars. At the end of the
visit we will be able to discover and purchase cheap Jacques products in
the 'Chocolate House'.
In the afternoon, we will visit the oldest city in Belgium: Tongeren. It
was founded in 15 BC as a base and supply station for the Roman troops
in the Rhine region, and rapidly developed into a major trade center. A
guide will lead us through the Gallo-Roman museum and the city center,
with the Basilica of Our Lady, the beguinage and of course the statue of
Ambiorix, king of the Eburones and leader of the resistance against
Rome. Caesar's defeat led to the famous quote "Horum omnium fortissimi
sunt Belgae" (of all the Gauls, the Belgae are the bravest).
