The research unit ‘Cultural History since 1750’ at the University of Leuven seeks to cover many aspects of the cultural landscape, ranging from the history of science and universities, the history of historiography and historical culture, cultural and social criticism in its various forms and the development of the cultural infrastructure to the history of cultural transfers, heritage and history education.
Our research staff study the development of modern laboratory culture, the role of medical societies in the urban context, the public function of history education, the history of art patronage, shopping culture and many other cultural-historical topics. They aspire to do this in a broad-minded way, considering both the various shapes as meanings of scientific and cultural practices.
Kaat Wils,
coordinator of the research unit
